's best guess is we'll have a new pope by easter which this year, falls on march 31st. >>> president obama is awarding the medal of honor today to army sergeant clinton roam shea for his courageous actions during a combat operation in afghanistan in october of 2009. romechet is the fourth living person to receive the medal. the president will travel to asheville, north carolina then he goes to atlanta, georgia and then chicago. that's on wednesday thursday, and friday. the plan is to bring his state of the union message to the people. he's going to talk about his ideas to strengthen the economy for the middle class. vice president biden continues his conversation today about gun safety and possible new legislation in philadelphia. he is holding a roundtable with law enforcement officials and members of congress. senator bob casey will be there also attending philadelphia mayor michael nutter and new york city police commissioner ray kelly. we'll see you on the other side. >> announcer: ladies and gentlemen, it's "the stephanie miller show." ♪ i'm walkin' on sunshine ♪ ♪ i'm walkin' o

[♪ "world news tonight" theme ♪] >> stephanie: this is kind of huge. the obama administration considering urging the supreme court to overturn california's ban on gay marriage. >> it's a big -- it would be a big deal, and here is why. one of the things that the court takes into consideration when they are dealing with high profile issues like this is how far along the country has moved. you think about it since 2009 when proposition 8 was ruled unconstitutional in california, you have had several states approve of marriage equality through the ballot process, and several states pass it by legislature on the governor's signature. and to have the president weigh in and say that this is unconstitutional would be another indication to the justices, but the ball is moving in a steady, one way direction here. >> stephanie: uh-huh. i know the president said recently i have to make sure i'm not interjecting myself that much in this process, do you think he is weighing whether it could help or hurt at that point? >> i think -- i don't think it w
